On 21 October 2014, Federal Minister of Economics Sigmar Gabriel welcomed more than 800 high-ranking representatives from politics, industry and science to the Eighth National IT Summit at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. In three high-level fora, the participants discussed central themes of the Federal Government’s Digital Agenda under the motto “live and work in the digital age – together.innovative.self-determined”.
Participants at this year’s meeting on the issue of digitisation in Germany were German Chancellor Angela Merkel as well as Minister of Labour Andrea Nahles, Minister of Research Johanna Wanka, Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière, Health Minister Hermann Gröhe, Minister of Infrastructure Alexander Dobrindt and the First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg Olaf Scholz.
This year’s Young IT Day, which took place the previous day at the Emporio Tower, was themed “Young IT meets Industry – Fresh Wind for the Digital Shift”. Representatives of more than 300 start-up companies as well as established industrial enterprises and user companies took the opportunity to network and discuss new business models.
